The need.

The cost of living crisis and the end of restrictions that protected tenants during Covid-19 is expected to cause a rise in numbers experiencing homelessness. Gateway has helped people who have lost their homes because of domestic violence, mental health, disability and debt. We have helped those who are sofa-hopping or sleeping rough.

No-one should be Homeless.

The statutory responsibility to support people who are homeless or threatened with homelessness sits with the Local Authority – the East Devon District Council (EDDC) Housing Options Team which is based in Exmouth. Gateway Caseworkers liaise closely with EDDC Rough Sleeper Navigators.

In Sidmouth additional support is offered through;

  • The Mustard Seed Café

  • Sid Valley Food Bank

  • The Beacon Medical Centre

  • Citizens Advice

  • Honiton Community Advice Service

Devon and Cornwall Police, in particular the local PCSOs, are involved and carry Gateway contact cards.
