How we work.

Volunteers lie at the heart of this community intervention to reduce homelessness and the risk of homelessness. They provide a listening ear, often over a hot drink and cake at the Mustard Seed café and can point those who need it towards housing and debt management help. This approach has proven to be effective for those in crisis, who may not know what other options are available.

Gateway also maintains contact with those living rough on the streets. There have been instances where real change that goes beyond the provision of warm clothing has been achieved despite immense challenges. However, it is recognised that offered help can also be declined.
